Excessive Sweating – Treatment and Management

Heavy sweating is also known as hyperhidrosis and is indeed an embarrassing and real problem for many. However, the good news is that there are effective ways of treating this rare condition that may cause excessive sweating on the face, genital area, armpits, feet, hands or on the entire body. What is the actual cause of excessive sweating is not known yet, but it has been found that it is hereditary in nature and starts during one's childhood itself. Patients who suffer from this condition sweat either in certain areas or all over their bodies. The skin may become wrinkled, white, and get irritated or red as there is a constant problem of moisture and may even develop a bad odor. Patients may often feel self-conscious and awkward while attending a social event.

A few things to know

HyperhidrosisTreatment for controlling excessive sweating: There are various treatment options to cure you of hyperhidrosis. Botox injections can be given in your armpits so that the nerves that are producing the sweat can be blocked. This technique can treat excessive sweating for up to 8 months for each injection given. On the other hand, a permanent solution can be the use of Ultherapy for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. An ultrasonic energy is used for destroying the activity of the sweat gland as a part of this procedure. Focused sound waves are used for targeting the depth of your skin that is the location of your sweat glands.

  • Managing excessive sweating: Many people suffer from the problem of excessive sweating but fail to realize that they have a medical condition that needs to be treated. If you are one of those people who sweat excessively, you should consult a dermatologist immediately to treat hyperhidrosis. A dermatologist is an ideal person who can educate you about the type of hyperhidrosis you are suffering from and can advise for appropriate treatment.
