PD&CC's 4th Annual "Save The Girls" designer bra show Winner!
June is the month to celebrate the Men in our lives. Here at Pacific Dermatology & Cosmetic Center, this month lets us reflect upon the ever increasing interest from men in cosmetic procedures. Men are realizing the improved confidence, youthfulness and joy that can come from having minimally invasive procedures. Why not encourage the men in your life to come in for a Cosmetic Consultation to discuss the possibilities?
The top five cosmetic procedures for men at our office are Botox, Fillers, Laser Hair Removal,
Fraxel re:store DUAL and the Vbeam.
1) Botox can be used to help soften the “scowl” lines between brows and across the forehead as well as crow’s feet. Another popular use for Botox amongst men is for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
2) Soft tissue Fillers such Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Radiesse can soften the deeper facial lines that accompany aging. They are also often used to accompany eye rejuvenation, specifically helping to decrease the “bags” under eyes.
3) Laser Hair Removal for men is especially popular for treatment of back hair, neck hair, chest and abdominal hair. Six sessions can reduce up to 90% of the hairs permanently.
4) Fraxel resurfacing is a wonderful treatment for men who would like to get both medical and cosmetic benefit from a procedure. Fraxel can reduce the number of actinic keratosis (pre-skin cancers), even out skin tone, decrease fine lines and improve acne and surgical scarring.
5) Vbeam is a treatment for redness and visible blood vessels on the face, neck and chest. It is a wonderful treatment for those suffering from Rosacea or those who flush easily.
This month, celebrate your men by letting them in on the secrets of cosmetics that you have known for years. And remember, we now have Pacific Dermatology & Cosmetic Center Gift Cards you can load at any amount for gifts of all kinds including Father’s Day!
Summer Sunscreen Reminder:
Here in Seattle, the sun likes to play hide-and-seek with us during these summer months. We see many patients coming in with sunburns after being out on a day that initially seemed cloudy, then that sun popped out. Getting such sunburns can be dangerous and lead to skin cancers. We recommend you get in the habit of daily sunscreen application, especially on the face, neck and chest of SPF 30 or above. Some staff favorites are Skin Ceuticals Physical Fusion SPF 50, Skin Ceuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50, Skin Ceuticals Sport UV Defense SPF 45, Skin Ceuticals Ultimate Defense SPF 30, Skin Medica TNS Environmental Defense SPF 50 and Obagi NuDerm Sun Shield SPF 50.
The “Fresh Faces For Summer” promotion will take place on Tuesday, June 26 with Dr. Reichel and Dr. Jacobson from 1:00pm-4:00pm and on Thursday, June 28 with Dr. Reichel 10:30am-4:30pm.
Buy one (1) syringe of Restylane or Perlane and get 50% off the second syringe. You will also get a $40.00 rebate for every two (2) syringes of Restylane or a $50.00 rebate for every one syringe of Perlane.
The DUET Program: Purchase and receive a minimum of 14 units of Botox and one (1) syringe of Juvederm at the same treatment and receive $50 off instantly if you are a Brilliant Distinctions member or if you are not a Brilliant Distinctions member, you can receive a mail-in rebate.
Dr. Reichel is attending the Cosmetic Surgery Meeting in June. Andrea English PA-C and Kelly Stevens PA-C are excited to be attending the National Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants here in Seattle this July. Additionally, in July Drs. Jennifer Reichel and Laurie Jacobson are speaking at the Pacific Northwest Dermatology Association meeting.
Hi “Mansome”? A New Documentary Highlights the Explosion of Men’s Grooming Market
Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) and Will Arnett (30 Rock) have teamed up in a new documentary called “Mansome” which explores the funny world of men's grooming. But men’s grooming is actually no joke. Major brands are rolling out “for men only” products and creating “dedicated men sections” in their stores to capitalize on this growing market.
Male skincare in particular has become one of the beauty industry's fastest-growing sectors as more men accept the fact that it’s ok to have a grooming routine. According to market research firm NPD Group, about 1 in 4 men use some sort of facial skin-care product - facial wash, moisturizer, lip balm or eye cream.
Cleansing and moisturizing are an important first step but in our practice we are seeing a growing trend among our male patients for anti-aging solutions – award-winning serums from Skinceuticals, wrinkle-relaxers such as Botox & Dysport, and long lasting fillers such as Restylane, Perlane & Radiesse - all to address those unwanted fine lines and wrinkles. And these patients range in age - younger male professionals looking to get a head start on the aging process to more mature males who want to re-evaluate their grooming habits now that they have started to experience the signs of aging – grey hair, hair loss, and wrinkles.
With summer upon us, it’s a great time to take the plunge. Not sure where to start?
Give us a call at (206) 859-5777 and one of our experienced physicians can walk you through all the options. And remember Father’s Day is June 17th – a gift certificate is a great option for the husband, father or brother who may need a little motivation to get started.
Finding the best gift for mom is no easy task, but look no further! We have identified some of the best beauty finds for Mother’s Day this year. These aesthetic products and treatments will help mom look even younger and more beautiful than she is today and make for the perfect gift. Here are our top picks.
In-Office Options: Some of our most popular anti-aging treatments are Photofacials and glycolic peels. Each can soften fine lines and wrinkles, help smooth textured skin, decrease the appearance of scarring, reduce pore size, and reduce those age spots. These are great gifts to help mom rejuvenate and re-discover that younger looking skin. If you think mom might need a little extra help to turn back the clock, injectables like Botox® and Restylane® have little to no downtime and are great ways to reduce those lines and wrinkles. Mom will instantly erase a few years off her appearance after one of these treatments.
At-Home Options: There are several new anti-aging products on the market today to smooth fine lines. Skinceuticals has an award-winning line of serums, CE Ferulic and Phloretin CF, as well as A.G.E. Interruptor that are formulated to help repair aging, damaged skin caused by daily sun exposure, irritants and pollutants while shielding the skin from damaging ultraviolet light. A great product to help exfoliate and deep cleanse the skin is the Clarisonic® Sonic Skin Care System (this is the same company that developed the Sonicare tooth brush). The electric skin brush can remove 6x more makeup and 2x more dirt and oil than a wash cloth and will make mom’s skin look and feel beautiful.
Let Mom Choose: Gift cards are a great option if you aren’t sure what direction to go. Make it even more enjoyable for mom and see if one of her friends might want to join in. Our office can customize a great package to meet your needs. If you have questions about any of these gift ideas call us at 206.859.5777 or email us at [email protected]

May is Melanoma Awareness Month
Please call for a skin check if you have a personal or family history of skin cancer or if you have any new or changing lesions. It’s not surprising how we begin to see new moles or suspicious spots once the weather changes since we finally get to wear less winter clothing! Always remember to wear sunscreen such as the great products made by Skin Ceuticals, Skin Medica and Obagi which we carry in our clinic.
In honor of our growing male patient population, we will soon have a Men’s Corner on our website!
Dr. Reichel will be attending the Las Vegas Cosmetic Surgery conference this coming June. This international symposium will highlight the latest advances and treatments available in cosmetic surgery. This month Dr. Jacobson is attending the annual ACMS (American College of Mohs Surgery) meeting in Chicago. This group includes those dermatologists who have completed an extra year of Mohs surgery fellowship training and is a great opportunity to see old colleagues, obtain updates on skin cancer treatments and learn about new reconstruction techniques.
Spring is a great time to make an appointment before the summer sun comes around. Laser treatments ranging from the Total FX CO2 or the Fraxel to leg vein treatments or sclerotherapy achieve optimal results if patients have not had any recent sun exposure or sun exposure immediately post-treatment. And, as many of you already know, our new LightSheer DUET laser hair removal system has been a huge hit since it is much faster and more comfortable than any others on the market. Spring also brings big events for many people (graduations, weddings, proms, etc) so come in and have a Cosmetic Consultation, and we can suggest what treatment options are most harmonious with your goals.
We are also thrilled to announce the addition of the ULTHERA…the only FDA cleared, non-invasive tightening and lifting device that uses microfocused ultrasound technology for tightening skin. Ultherapy sees below the surface of the skin, precisely heats that tissue to naturally and gradually create new collagen. This ultrasound technology improves your skin from the inside out. Results can be some toning and firming immediately following the treatment with the full lifting and tightening effect building gradually over the course of two to three months. Treatment options range from providing a sleeker, more defined jawline to reducing laxity of the eyelid skin. Imagine a significant lift of the brow line! And, there is no recovery ‘downtime’. We look forward to having you come in for this skin rejuvenation procedure
Our Evening of Beauty event will take place Thursday, April 26 from 4:30pm-7:30pm. We will have a live demonstration of the Ulthera, as well as evening of treatments featuring Botox and Chemical Peels at amazing prices, product discounts and great raffle items, gift bags and refreshments. We look forward to giving you this very special evening, please call as soon as possible and reserve your time.
Provider News: Kelly Stevens, PA-C and Drs. Jennifer Reichel and Laurie Jacobson are pleased to have taken their recertifying board examinations in March and have them behind us. Drs. Reichel and Jacobson will be attending the annual American College of Mohs Surgery meeting in Chicago in a few weeks to learn about the latest updates and treatment options for skin cancer. In addition, both Drs. Reichel and Jacobson will be speaking at the annual Pacific Northwest Dermatologic Conference held in Suncadia, WA this year on liposuction and laser resurfacing advances, respectively.
Spring is also the time to take stock of the health of our skin before summer rolls around. Be certain to make your annual skin check appointment at 206-859-5777 and we can also discuss the best ways to help prevent skin cancer.
Bridal Beauty: Pre Wedding Skincare Solutions Preparing for your wedding day can feel like training for a marathon - hours and hours of work for just one day. But as any bride (or marathoner) would attest preparation is key to a successful day or run – and every minute is worth it! One of the key items on your wedding to-do list should be beauty prep. Implementing a skincare routine several months ahead of time will ensure you get that gorgeous bridal glow. Here are some key tips:
Be Gentle: Stick with a gentle, non-drying, sulfate-free cleanser with an alcohol-free toner and moisturizer as part of your daily regimen. Anything too abrasive will actually have the opposite effect on your skin. Start your cleansing program approximately 6 months ahead of the big day and your skin will thank you.
Up the Antioxidants: Beautiful skin starts deep on the inside. Adding foods high in antioxidants into your diet can help you achieve that great complexion. Citrus fruits such as cantaloupe, berries, and dark grapes are all loaded with vitamins, minerals and age-defying antioxidants and are perfect additions to your daily routine. We recommend two amazing products from Skinceuticals, CE Ferulic and Phloretin CF, either of these award-winning products added to your skin care routine will leave you feeling like a blushing bride.
Plan Ahead: If you are considering an aesthetic procedure to address wrinkles and fine lines you will need to start the process a few months ahead of time. Injectables like Botox and Juvederm have little to no downtime. But if you are considering a more invasive procedure such as an IPL (intense pulsed light) or microdermabrasion treatment to address discolored skin, you will need to factor in both prep, procedure and recovery time. Make sure you ask your aesthetic practitioner about special post procedure creams that can shorten the healing time.
Don’t Be Adventurous: Not all skin is the same. Different products and treatments impact people differently. We recommend you start testing new skincare products well ahead of time. For aesthetic procedures it’s important that you see a trained professional who can guide you through the benefits, side-effects and recovery time for each procedure.
We have excellent physicians and skincare specialists here to help you design your ultimate treatment plan just in time for your amazing day. Call us today and schedule your consultation, 206.859.5777, there's no need to stress before your big day, leave the treatment planning to us!
You may not realize it, but a little plumpness is a good thing. Especially when we're talking about the face, as you can see in actress Elizabeth McGovern's photos, the image on the left taken in September 2001 and the one on the right last week.
Fat naturally adds the volume and support to the face that keeps wrinkles at bay and our skin looking youthful. However, we start to lose facial fat as early as our 20s, and it's a downhill slide, literally, from there.
Facial fat deteriorates naturally with age, but weight loss and hormonal changes can speed up the process. When this happens, we start to see less definition around the face, including sunken temples, forehead and brow wrinkles, the corners of the mouth turned down, hallowing around the eyes, flatter cheeks and slack skin around the jaw.
There are ways to restore facial volume and achieve smoother skin. Here's how:
Fat transfer: This is good option if you'd like long-term results, but can endure some downtime (up to two weeks). You will first undergo a mini-liposuction procedure to remove fat from another area of your body, then it will be prepared to be injected into your face. It's also a good option if you are wary of injecting other types of fillers into your skin. The fat is your own, so your body will not reject it. We are able to store your fat in our medical-grade freezer for up to two years so it's easy to come in when you need another injection.
Fillers: Fullness can be restored through a variety of fillers including temporary (like Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane), or longer-term (like Radiesse). Injecting fillers is a non-invasive option that gives an immediate result. The cheeks, temples, chin and jawline are the areas best suited for fillers, and Restylane was recently given FDA approval for use in the lips. Some of the non-permanent fillers can last up to two years, but most need additional treatments.
Seek an experienced and board-certified physician to determine the right option that will give you the results you're after. Call our office to schedule your consultation with one of our skilled physicians, 206.859.5777, at Pacific Dermatology & Cosmetic Center we have years of experience with facial fillers.
Spring Into Beauty The famous Punxsutawney Phil groundhog may be predicting 6 more weeks of winter but it’s never too early to start preparing your skin for those sunny warmer months. Winter takes a toll on everyone’s skin. To achieve that fresh spring look you will need to start adjusting your skincare routine now to prepare for the change in weather. We recommend starting with a good exfoliant that contains grainy ingredients such as oatmeal, ground almonds or even sea salt. By removing the dead cells your skin will look smoother, healthier and more radiant. Look for at-home products for your skin type and make sure you use a different exfoliant for your face (ideally with alpha-hydroxy or beta-hydroxy acid) vs. the rest of your body. If you have oily skin we recommend exfoliating several times a week - dry skin only 1-2 times a week and stick with a gentle exfoliant. We also like Chemical Peels, products such as Skin Medica's Vitalize Peel help fight the effects of time, sun damage, and environmental assaults. This powerful yet non-damaging peel can take years off aging skin.
With more sun filled hours in the day, Spring is also the time to switch your moisturizer. Heavy moisturizers work well in the winter months to prevent dry, cracked skin. At this time of year you should be looking for one that contains sunscreen (minimum SPF15) to help prevent sun damage and fine lines. We recommend a lighter moisturizer so you can easily apply makeup over it. Spring is big time of year for special events – Easter, Mother’s Day, communions and graduations. If you are considering having a cosmetic procedure, now is the time to put those plans in motion. Injectables like Botox and Juvederm' have little to no downtime and are an easy way for you to refresh your look for Spring. If you are considering something more invasive such as laser resurfacing you will need to factor in several weeks for the consultation, prep, procedure and recovery time. As always make sure you see a trained professional before pursuing any aesthetician services, minimally invasive treatments or cosmetic surgery. Pacific Dermatology & Cosmetic Center is here to design a tailored treatment plan designed specifically for your needs. Call us today and schedule your consultation, 206.859.5777, we are excited to help you Spring Forward!
